The full Leaping Dog Story

Leaping Dog Art Studios is a truly inspiring environment where instruction is always personalized and students of every level are encouraged and supported in their creative journey. On any given day, you can witness students and members engaged in a lively, fully equipped community pottery studio which boasts ten electric wheels, a slab roller and two kilns.

-ORIGIN STORY- Back in 2014, Leaping Dog Art Studios founder Jen chose to stay at home and raise her two daughters instead of returning as a full time public school art teacher only to use her entire salary to pay a daycare to take care of her own children. It was the best decision she ever made.

Leaping Dog Art Studios – a ‘creative space for all’ was born shortly after while Jen envisioned teaching a few art lessons on the side. After searching for a space to rent, Jen was given the opportunity of a lifetime to use a space at a price she could not refuse. That night she purchased a domain inspired by her beloved labrador (Liza Jane) and built a simple website. Liza’s happy and playful spirit perfectly captured the joy that she wanted the studio to embody.

While Jen originally opened Leaping Dog with only kids in mind, it quickly became apparent that adults wanted a creative space too. In 2018, having outgrown her original space, Jen moved her studio to Farnsworth Avenue and expanded her class offerings to include ceramics. Over the next seven years, the ceramics side of the studio gradually took over the studio and helped to propel Leaping Dog to be the premier destination for both serious and aspiring ceramic artists. In 2026, Leaping Dog became the official ‘Ceramic’ Studio and its ‘sister’ studio Sleeping Cat opened down the street to take over as the location of all the non- clay classes for kids and adults.
